About DFA

What is Democracy for America?

Founded by Gov. Howard Dean in 2004, Democracy for America is the people-powered Political Action Commitee. With over one million members nationwide, DFA is a grassroots powerhouse working to change our country and the Democratic Party from the bottom-up. We provide campaign training, organizing resources, and media exposure so our members have the power to support progressive issues and candidates up and down the ballot. How do DFA endorsements work?

The driving force behind all DFA endorsements is our members. We gauge DFA member and local support in a number of different ways. For starters, supporters can go online to their favorite candidate's application page and publicly add their support using the "voice your support" feature.

We also look to our local DFA groups to see who they have endorsed to use as a gauge for local DFA member support. Finally, we run competitions like Grassroots All-Stars to see which candidates can engage and excite the progressive base.
